UNGC Network Egypt’s Engagement at UNGA Week 2024

Mr. Ayman Ismail, Chairman of the Board of Directors of UNGC Network Egypt, addressed participants during the “Future-Proofing Business by Improving Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the Workplace” session. He communicated the importance of embracing DEI not only as a social responsibility but as a powerful driver for business success. Referencing McKinsey’s research, Mr. Ismail emphasized that gender diversity can increase profitability by up to 21%, reinforcing that inclusive practices are integral to building sustainable and successful organizations. His call for leadership accountability and fostering inclusive work environments resonated strongly with the diverse audience.

Driving Sustainable Impacts in Africa Session

Mrs. Walaa El Husseiny, Country Director of UNGC Egypt, moderated the “Driving Sustainable Impacts in Africa” session. This conversation featured Ms. Abir Leheta, CEO of Egytrans and Board Member of UNGC Egypt, who shared insights about Egytrans’ sustainability journey. The session focused on Egytrans' ambitious carbon reduction goals for 2030 and highlighted how the company’s holistic strategy integrates environmental, social, and technological dimensions. Mrs. El Husseiny highlighted the need for capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and strong partnerships to drive sustainable change in Africa.

SDG Pioneer Awards

An important milestone during UNGA Week was the SDG Pioneers Award ceremony, where Mennatullah AbdelGawad, Business Sustainability Manager at Hassan Allam Holding, a UNGC participant was honored as Egypt’s sole SDG Pioneer. This prestigious award recognized Mrs. Menna’s exceptional contributions to sustainability in the business sector, showcasing the vital role of businesses in advancing the SDGs and driving positive change. Her recognition underlines the growing impact of individuals and organizations working tirelessly to integrate sustainable practices into their core operations.
